Wiki Loves Monuments 2024 is an international photo contest about cultural heritage monuments, which is open to everybody and is organised by the local chapters of Wikimedia and volunteer groups from different countries.
With this initiative we encourage anyone to upload images of monuments under a free license for use in Wikipedia articles, in other Wikimedia projects, and elsewhere. We want to offer a global and quality vision of the cultural heritage of each country, which is an outstanding part of human knowledge; for this, the images are worth a thousand words and do not require knowledge of a certain language. In addition, in this edition we are also looking for photographs of town halls. Participate and help improve Wikipedia and spread free knowledge!
Wiki Loves Monuments is organised in Spain by Wikimedia Spain Association, which promotes and spreads Free Knowledge on Spain. IF you are interested in colaborating on contests or other activities, you may associate or donate.

History of the contest
In June 2009, Wikimedia Nederland (the Dutch chapter of Wikimedia) organised a first photo contest of this kind, under the title Wiki Loves Art. 20 participants were invited to take pictures of works of art held by some 40 partner museums and upload their photographs to Wikimedia Commons. Given the success of this contest (more than 4,000 images uploaded), Wikimedia Nederland renewed the experience in September 2010, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days, with Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM). In 2011 the contest was renewed, taking place in 18 European countries and attracting more than 150,000 photos, and in 2012 it reached an international scale with 34 countries involved and was registered in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest in the world, attracting more than 350,000 photos. Since then, it has continued to be organised every year, and since the first edition, more than three million images have been obtained.
Selection process
The contest is composed of 2 different phases, the first one takes place within Spain with a national jury and with our prizes; in the second phase, of international scope, the best 10 photographs of each national contest will participate with an international jury that will select the best pictures of monuments in 2024 worldwide and will also grant important prizes.
